C-Yacht Compromis C34

Brief details

Builder

Yachtshipyard Zaadnoordijk, Uitgeest, Netherlands. (C-Yacht)

The Compromis C34 from Holland is a quality built yacht with many practical details in the design and fitout. The builders offer quite a lot of semi-customisation with options for keel depth as well as other variations. 'Yachting Monthly' tested the design when first introduced and summarised her as "Well built and well thought out, this boat deserves serious consideration from anyone looking for a quality 34-footer that stands out from the crowd. She will make a fine all-round cruiser with the capability of extended passagemaking."

Sailplan

Yachtshipyard Zaadnoordijk built a series of yachts under the Compromis and C-Yachts names. The company was founded in 1947 by Rinus Zaadnoordijk, and began with a small marina in Uitgeest. Their yachts are well known for quality construction and fitout. In 2022 another Dutch company Wajer Yachts took over Yachtshipyard Zaadnoordijk and is continuing to build C-Yacht sailing yachts as well as their own range of motor yachts.

The Compromis C34 is designed by Frans Maas as a modern centre-cockpit cruising yacht with moderate draught (though a deeper keel was an option). The hull is quite high freeboard, with a massive rubber rubbing strake protecting the topsides. The first owner specified the yacht illustrated with Treadmaster on decks, a powered Selden genoa furler and in-boom reefing for the mainsail. The boat shown also has a bowthruster and an electric anchor windlass. Like some Scandinavian yachts the anchor self-stows into a slot in the bow, and the cockpit has a fixed windscreen.

Internally she has one large aft cabin, with lots of stowage space. The joinery is teak, and the galley is particularly large for a 34 foot yacht, with workspace and shelf space not only by the cooker but also under the companionway steps. The companionway and galley area have stainless tube handholds.

(drawing shows standard keel masthead sloop version - deep keel and fractional rig also available)

Apart from the electric genoa furler, the yacht illustrated has non-standard in-boom reefing.

In-boom reefing is more often found on superyachts, and has the significant advantage over the more common in-mast reefing in that if there is a problem with the reefing gear, the sail can still be dropped.
